PRIMAL COLLECTION (UNDERWAY)

Rock paintings, engravings and sculptures are perhaps the most ancient artistic expression, dating back at least 30,000 years.

Beyond the academic debate about the artistic intentionality of these representations or even their magical symbolism, they illustrate the early self-awareness and awareness of the world that surrounded people before writing. They are a wonderful and often surprising example of the spark of creativity and awareness that sprouted in Man. Chauvet and Lascaux in France or Altamira in Spain are references, but with the lesser-known examples these Human expressions have a global occurrence. From magnificent figurative expressions to more interpretive or even indecipherable examples, prehistoric graphic language is a legacy that should help us better understand who we were and are, on a journey of existence and consciousness that in geological time has only just begun.

The series pays homage to and celebrates these Man, in a recreated and sometimes reinterpreted way, illustrating the main themes of rock art: animals, the human figure and symbols

The artist used earth tones such as ochre, charcoal black and burnt earth, which sometimes incorporate mineral pigments collected from fossil cliffs, that constituted a textural and also a symbolic choice. The technical and aesthetic divergence is intentional, seeking to mimic the original representations, rather than a coherent line of work.

With this series, the artist traveled around 17 thousand years of human history, on a journey through the testimonies left in the places that give their names to the works.

This series will not continue beyond this body of work. The artist will not continue this theme nor its technical and aesthetic choices.
